From $13,600 to $4,100 Annual Energy Savings - LED Lighting Upgrade for a Mt. Juliet Church

Grace United Methodist Church had grown tired of replacing their 400 watt metal halide parking lot bulbs, so they called us to replace a few with high performance LED fixtures. Once we told them about the TVA rebate program, the financing provided through Pathway Lending, and the inevitable energy and maintenance savings from a full high performance LED Lighting system install, it was a no brainer.

Exotic Cars + LED Lighting = More Sales

It made a gigantic difference in how we present the product. I believe our LED lighting definitely helped increase our sales.
— Brian Wallin, Partner - Velocity Motors, Nashville TN

There's nothing quite like admiring the beauty of a Lamborghini Diablo glimmering under  Energy Efficient LED Lighting. Actually, any exotic or rare car for that matter. Hey let's face it, ANY NEW car looks great under spectacular lighting.

Brian Wallin hired Big Dot Lighting to improve the photo booth area of their exotic auto dealership just outside the Nashville Airport. Soon after, Brian and his business partner John knew that LEDs were the only technology that would provide the best lighting to display and sell their high-end inventory.

Prior to the install, Velocity Motors spent around $300-$330 a month on their electrical utilities and are now saving an average of $150 a month. That's just by switching to LED lighting in their 10,000 square foot space. Their HVAC system is breathing easier too since it's not fighting the heat radiating from their old fluorescent fixtures.

You're Paying For LEDs Anyway

You're Paying For LEDs Anyway

One of the things we kind of feel badly about is showing a potential client how they're in need of an Energy Efficient LED Lighting conversion. Well, we don't feel badly about that, rather about If they choose to not move forward with the project, they will find that in two years, they will have paid for the lights already....and not have them.

I call it "opening Pandora's box".

In the case of a local car dealership's project to upgrade to Energy Efficient LED lighting:

Overall project cost for every bulb/fixture on the property to be converted....$135.300

Estimated power company incentive..............................................................................$23,701

Annual utility savings after LED lighting install...........................................................$54,312

Simple payback period (applying all of the utility savings to the project).........2.1 years

So in a little over 2 years, this dealership will have paid for their LED lighting project. Even if they decided to not move forward with it.

Add to this our 10 year warranty which allows the dealership to forget about lighting maintenance for the next decade which would amount to around $80,000.

Aaaand IRS code 179d which allows a $.60 per square foot credit when you upgrade to energy efficient LED lighting. But who knows if that may go away anytime soon.

That's why we feel badly. They needed something and decided to put off buying it or not buy it at all, yet they still paid for it.

LED lighting is needed in your business. It's not as expensive as it was. You'll be glad you did it in the morning. Call us. 931-674-1411

Dots or Solid?

Dots or Solid?

Dots or solids, do they matter to you and your business?

How you're setting money on fire, almost literally.

How you're setting money on fire, almost literally.

Yes. Almost literally. That's possibly definitely a statement of conflict, perhaps.

Traditional bulbs create heat that emits light as a by-product.

Even those cute compact fluorescents get nasty.

A typical 32 watt fluorescent T8 bulb has a surface temperature that hovers around 110 degrees Fahrenheit. That's nothing compared to a 100 watt incandescent bulb which has a filament temperature of 4600 degrees and a surface temperature of 225 degrees!

Thaaaats a lot of bodies up there....

Walk into just about any Nashville office and you'll find 2x4 4-bulb fluorescent fixtures scattered about the grid ceiling. Now think of each of those fixtures as two human bodies.

Live bodies. Unless it's an episode of the Walking Dead.

That's about how much heat those puppies generate in addition to the real live human bodies that are taking up residence Monday through Friday. Oh your poor HVAC system.....

Energy Efficient LED Lighting generates no heat and all of the energy used is purely for illumination. Plus they'll cut your electric bill considerably.

Aside from literally taking your money and instantly setting it aflame from that 4600 degree incandescent filament, you're definitely likely throwing money out the window. But that's another story.

My business can save money? Why do I not care?

My business can save money? Why do I not care?

We get it. As a business owner/manager, you're probably bombarded from all sorts of salespeople telling you that their product or service will save you 100s of dollars a month, 1000s a year, millions over 10 years....

What does it take for one of those guys or gals to break through to you? You have a business to run and sure, you'd like to protect your bottom line as much as the next guy. But man...if one says it, they all say it, and do you really care?

Of course you care. You're just overwhelmed.

You may even feel a little guilty because your business has a similar product that can save other businesses tons of cash and you use similar sales tactics. Deep down, you know you should probably engage with some of those salespeople who are preaching the same message to keep the Business Kharma gods at bay. After all, they're just trying to make a paycheck.

At Big Dot Lighting, we *know* without a shadow of a doubt that what we can save businesses a lot of money when we convert them to energy efficient LED lighting. In some cases, millions of dollars will be saved over a 10 year span. Not to mention all the other money and energy savings they will reap.

Moment of transparency: Our problem is....how do we (as business folk) make our prospective clients care....about not spending more than they have to....in a world where they're getting hit with other similar pitches on a daily basis?

5 Out of Many Reasons to Convert Your Business to Energy Efficient LED Lighting

1. LED lighting will reduce energy costs by 35-80%. That's a lot of cash saved on electric bills. Unless you just like setting money on fire.

2. Energy efficient LED lights reduce maintenance costs. LEDs do not burn out like other light bulbs. Hey, they're not infallible and they can fail, though it’s very rare. If they do, at least you're not tossing a tube filled with poisonous gas into the trash. But when you have the backing of our 10 year warranty, you can just go ahead and zero out that lighting maintenance line item for the next decade!

3. LEDs are cold-hearted little bizzatches. Nah, they don't have an attitude problem, they just don't put off heat. See those 2x4 fluorescent troffers in the ceiling? They generate as much heat as 1-2 human bodies. (LIVE...human bodies. Don't get morbid) Convert to LEDs and your HVAC system will thank you. Maybe it'll write you a note or something.

4. The TVA wants to help you pay for it. Nashville is growing fast. Yay us! But the TVA has to power all those new business opening and coming to town. Coal-fired power plants are being shut down and we're not building any more nuclear power plants, so let's give the TVA a hand fer cryin' out loud.

Imagine the TVA as Jerry McGuire: "Help me, help you." Plus they're going to "show you the money" with a hefty rebate on your project.

The more businesses we can help to convert to energy efficient LED lighting, the less strain will be on our local power grid.

5. You don't have to pony up cash to get the project done. We can convert your business to LED lighting with $0 out of pocket. You just pay what you'd normally budget for your electrical expenses until the project is paid off. Typically after 20 months (some cases in as little as 9 months), your new normal begins in the form of monthly savings of 35-50%.

So the question becomes, what are you going to do with the savings? We're here for you if you'd like to talk about it.
